Ischgl, Austria : Christmas

The views

Snow covered mountain tops were wonderful to see. There was so much snow, everywhere, it never ended. It was a wonderful way to ensure a white Christmas. The city ensures to take care of the roads, so safety was never an issue luckily. The bus that ran from city to city, taking you from where ever you were staying to the slope start, had no issues on the roads and it was so nice that I didn’t have to drive to the slope or back. Ischgl was cute with small streets and stores, restaurants, and bars all along.

On the slopes

I’ve never been snowboarding at 25 years old. Always wanted to. When we got there I debated on going with skis thinking I could manage better and have more fun. So thankful I jumped fully in and went with the snowboard. I had SOOOOO much fun. I fell three times in about 100 feet and sat up laughing so hard each time.

It snowed ALL CHRISTMAS DAY. I mean, down pour of snow all day.. Christmas day. Like a movie, a dream come true. Lucky for me it snowed all day, leaving several inches of fresh powder on top so it didn’t hurt as bad when I fell — which happened a lot.

I watched a couple youtube videos the night before from a snowboard camp account. Honestly, it did help me a lot. But, I also had a lot to learn from just getting up and trying. Turns out, I cant do toe-edge at all. I think I don’t like it because I can’t see the slope going down behind me. By the end of the day I was EXHAUSTED. I was on the board for atleast 5 hours, and it gets really difficult to stand up over and over again after falling so much. Especially when you fall on the flat ski trail and not only is it tough to get up, but you cant go anywhere because its flat ground. Thankfully some nice ski folks held out their pole and helped pull me along a few times. Also these flat parts were straight ice so not only was it hard to stay up, but it hurt way more when you fell.

Thank God I got out of this first time snowboarding adventure with no injuries. Although I had a couple REALLY hard falls which my helmet really saved me on, all I had to complain about was a sore bum and a stiff neck the next day.

Try new things & be proud of yourself

Adding this photo separately because it really meant a lot to me after the fact.
I look at this photo now and see a girl who was SO proud of herself for trying something new, in a new country, on steep slopes, and honestly doing pretty well at it.
I see adventure, courage, determination, happiness and thrill. Can’t wait to do it again!
