Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a wonderful German town in Northern Bavaria. This trip was a little spur of the moment in planning but wonderful nonetheless.
This was only my second time traveling with anyone and it was fabulous. A girls’ weekend was needed more than I even knew when the trip started.
We left Saturday morning and made it to Rothenburg just as the rain stopped. Got Cassy checked into her fancy hotel room all to herself (first trip without kids) and then grabbed a sandwich, drinks, and headed off to walk around. Both Cassy and Rach had been to the town before, each done different things, and happy to do it all again and see new things at a different pace with no kids and no plans. We walked the city wall, walked all the streets, window shopped, enjoyed the gardens, and finally took a break to grab a couple glasses of wine before dinner. The day was filled with lots of topics of conversations, plenty of stops for photos, and TONS of laughter. It was such a blessing. Rachel did a fabulous job picking a restaurant for dinner and we had a wonderful meal with more wine. We laughed until we cried, we all cried about a personal story we shared, and they talked about mom-life struggles while I learned about things I never knew about. We finally made our way back to Cassy’s hotel and then on to Rachel’s awesome camper van to turn in for the evening. A night sitting outside the van under the stars and reading a book was a perfect way to enjoy the weather.
Sunday morning we headed back into town, met Cassy and got some breakfast at a little cafe and headed to church. We went to St. James’s church for their morning service. I’ve never ever been to a Catholic service, throw in the fact it was completely in German, I had an interesting time. The organ was beautiful and the experience was well worth it to take time and learn about their culture and religious practices there while having my own internal church time with God.
After church we packed up and headed to Schwabish Hall. This town was also cute and had lots going on that day. The park was full of families and outside restaurants were bustling with people enjoying the wonderful weather.
We finally made our way back to Stuttgart and wrapped up a perfect trip to rest and recharge while enjoying sister time to encourage each other and share life together. What a blessing.
